Health and Medical Assignment Discussion Paper Homework Help

Houser (2018) mentioned that the research process entails a series of sequences such as defining a research problem, review of literature, selection of a design, definition of a sampling strategy, data collection, data analyzation, communication of findings, and utilization of the findings to support practice.

Houser (2018) also mentioned a systematic approach of using the PICOT form which included:

P-Population: Who should the specific people be? If selecting a specific population, what are the risk factors and characteristics of that population?

I-Intervention: What is introduced into the study? This may include process measures, treatments, and exposure.

C-Comparison: The standard of practice in regards to what are we comparing?

O-Outcomes: The outcome should reflect the nature, direction, and degree.

T-Time: Which refers to the duration of data collection and includes a clear identification of the population and population studied.

The American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (2018) mentioned one of the definitions of different types pf questions is Prognosis/Prediction, which is a question addressing the prediction of the course of a disease. In the event of my research question, I would like to discuss the influenza vaccination.

My PICOT question for this study follows:

In the population of 65 years and older (P), how does the use of receiving the influenza vaccine (I) compared to not receiving the influenza vaccine(C) influence the risk of developing the flu/pneumonia (O) during the flu season (T)?

As a nurse in the home health setting a significant clinical nursing issue of interest I would say would come from the majority of our negative outcomes which are a result from the patient not receiving the flu vaccine. This generates a detailed report that negatively affects our patient outcome goals. I chose this topic as it continues to be a common widespread issue of debate due to its effectiveness and I believe would benefit from finding the best evidence. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2019) mentioned that as of January 5, 2019, 30 states have been affected by the flu. 7 million people have gotten sick with the flu while half of those sought medical care and up to 84,000 were hospitalized as a result. The effectiveness of the vaccine is based on how well the viruses include in the vaccine match what is circulating. There are also other factors of the effectiveness of the vaccine such as lifestyle, age, and health. The population of the patient we currently see are elderly, in which results in a weaker immune system.
