- Label your assignment option number in your submission.
Option 1:
- Because drawing is often the first expression of an artist’s idea, does this mean that it is superior to other media?
- An initial sketch or a doodle on a napkin could hold more insight into the idea in its pure state than a carefully refined or labored print or painting. What is your opinion?
- Find three examples from the Google Art & Culture site(https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/) and link out to these examples to illustrate your argument.

Option 2:
Drawing is an exploratory medium.
- Examine Henri Matisse’s The Fall of Icarus (http://www.henri-matisse.net/cut_outs.html) or William Kentridge’s History of the Main Complaint (http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/kentridge-history-of-the-main-complaint-t07480).
Matisse described his work as “drawing with scissors”, while Kentridge combined drawing with film. These artists pushed the boundaries of the drawing art form to create something unique.
- Search the Internet and find three examples of how drawings were used by the artist in an innovative way.
- Explain the examples to illustrate your point. Include links to the images you have selected.
