Critical Thinking, Analysis, and Synthesis

Week 1 Discussion 1

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resource on your own before you bid. One of the references must come from Sue, D. W., & Sue, D. (2016). You are expected to include at least one scholarly and peer-reviewed resource outside of those provided in the readings for each discussion post. I need this completed by 03/03/18 at 1pm.

Please thoroughly read the Discussion Posting and Response Rubric attached to evaluate both the posts and responses. There are four components evaluated for each Discussion Post and Response.

1. Responsiveness to Discussion Question /9

2. Critical Thinking, Analysis, and Synthesis /9

3. Professionalism of Writing /5

4. Responsiveness to Peers /9

To get the highest grade possible, ask yourself if you have SURPASSED the following standards as you re-read your posts BEFORE submitting them:

1. Responsiveness: For the Main Post: Did I answer the entire question?  Is it on time?  Does the answer demonstrate that I have read the material for the week and really thought about it?

2. Critical Thinking, Analysis, and Synthesis: Does my post demonstrate my ability to apply, reflect, AND synthesize concepts and issues presented in the weekly learning 0bjectives? Have I integrated and mastered the general principles, ideas, and skills presented? Do my reflections include a clear and direct correlation to authentic examples or are they drawn from professional experience? Do my insights demonstrate significant changes in awareness, self-understanding, and knowledge?

3. Professionalism of Writing: Do my posts meet graduate-level writing expectations (e.g., are clear, concise, and use appropriate language; make few errors in spelling, grammar, and syntax; provide information about sources when paraphrasing or referring to it; use a preponderance of original language and directly quote only when necessary or appropriate)? Are my postings courteous and respectful when offering suggestions, constructive feedback, or opposing viewpoints?

4. Response to Peers: Do my peer responses indicate that I have read, thought about, and selectively responded to my colleague’s discussion posts in a complex way? Are my responses engaging, insightful, reflective of current events, or relevant to some experience I have had? Rather than just demonstrating agreement with the ideas presented by a colleague, or randomly quoting some resource in order to satisfy a formulaic inclusion of a citation and a reference, you are encouraged to provide an engaging response post which specifically builds upon the ideas of your colleague in an original and substantial manner, including relevant professional resources that go beyond what you are required to read for the course.

Cultural Competence

In this week’s Learning Resources, you have access to a media program that presents experts discussing various definitions of cultural competence. As you view the video program, consider the history of the messages each speaker raises and how it frames his or her perspective.

For this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources and the media program Introduction to Multicultural Counseling, as well as the media program Setting the Stage to further inform your response. Consider what it means to be culturally competent, both as a human being and as a counselor. Think about the type of training that could increase your self-awareness, knowledge, and skills to be a culturally competent trainer. Finally, consider what you might need to do to become more culturally competent and why such a goal is important.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 an explanation of what it means to you to be a culturally competent counselor and the importance of being culturally competent in your practice. Describe your level of self-awareness, knowledge, and skills related to cultural competence, and explain the training you will need to become culturally competent as a counselor.

Dr. Holt Application #5

Morgan State University

Scenario

It was becoming obvious to many that the suburbs of Kenzington now had a drug problem, but few wanted to admit it. The community’s residents like their quiet neighborhood, and most never thought that drugs would be a problem. Incidents of teenagers being arrested for possession of alcohol or even other drugs, such as marijuana, were being reported more regularly in the newspaper. There seemed to be more burglaries, too. All the signs were obvious to a group of concerned citizens in Kenzington and suggested the possibility of a drug problem. So the concerned citizens decided to take their concern to the city council.

Instructions

Review over the slides from Chapter 5. Based on the information, your assignment is as follows….

Identify a specific intervention that would be useful in dealing with the problem

How would you evaluate your efforts to solve the problem. Be specific in terms of the benchmarks that you would use

Being Self-Aware of Cultural Competence

Week 1 Journal Entry

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resource on your own before you bid. One of the references must come from Sue, D. W., & Sue, D. (2016). Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings. I need this completed by 03/04/18 at 5pm.

Journal Assignment: Being Self-Aware of Cultural Competence

This week you were provided with a plethora of information about culture and what it means to be culturally competent. Using a Likert scale rating from 1 to 10, with 1 being extremely low and 10 being extremely high, indicate where you currently assess your levels of (a) cultural self-awareness, (b) knowledge, and (c) skills. You need to rate each of the 3 areas: a rating for self-awareness, a rating for knowledge and a rating for skills. Support each rating with a statement of why you selected the level you did.

Note: The Journal is a graded Assignment and should not contain information meant to be kept confidential. Responses should adhere to the same standards of quality as those expected for a Discussion or Application question.

These journals are personal reflections of your experiences. These are informally written, can be done in “first person”, can be just a few paragraphs, do not have to be supported with resources, but MUST help me to understand your experience doing the assignment as outlined, or indicate that you have generated some insights concerning the topic.  Please be candid, as this will allow my feedback to be both personally relevant and hopefully helpful.  However, please also remember that everything posted in Blackboard is public, so only share what you feel comfortable sharing. Please review the Grading Rubric for Application Assignments, Journals, and Final Papers attached.

08.09 Idaho Code Review – Licensure Laws (90 Minutes)

In the previous Homework you have looked at various aspects of the Federal government and in this step and following steps we are now going to look at elements of Idaho Requirements. Going back to the general welfare clause of the Idaho Constitution it is incumbent upon the State of Idaho to assure that persons that practice medicine are properly trained and licensed. As a side note one reason for a license is that to practice medicine in Idaho is a privilege granted to you by the State of Idaho and not a Right granted to you by the Constitution. Therefore, that privilege can be revoked at any time should you fail to meet the standards and your license can be revoked after due process.

Step 01. Start by going to the index for the Idaho Statutes. You will note that the Idaho Code is divided into specific sections. Review the index from the https://legislature.idaho.gov/statutesrules/idstat/ and answer the following questions?

a. How many total Titles are there?

b. Select one of the Titles that interest you.

c. Which Title did you select and what area is regulated that you were not aware had regulations?

Step 02. Now go to Title39 Health and Safety

a. Select a Chapter to review.

b. Which Chapter did you select?

c. Now select a specific section – it will be 39-. Which section did you select?

d. At the very bottom of the section you will see a note similar to this –

[39-5206, added 1982, ch. 181, sec. 1, p. 471.] this tells you when the section was added to Idaho Code.

When was your section added to Idaho Code and was it ever amended and when?

Step 03. Now you will go to Idaho Code Title 39 Chapter 13 – Hospital Licenses and Inspections

a. According to IC 39-1303 after what date did a hospital need to be licensed in Idaho?

b. What year was the requirement amended for licensure?

c. Which specific IC sections are listed as needing a license?

d. The very first area that you need to read of any statute or rule is the definition section. Go to IC39-1301 and answer the following:

a. Who is a person? Rules will state that no person shall do or not do something.

b. Who is a physician? This is key because it defines a hospital as being operated by a physician?

c. If you had a “hospital’ and took care of 1 (one) patient would you be required to be licensed?

d. Why do you think this would be the case?

e. Nurses are not defined in this section of the Idaho Code – as you read the definitions where would you expect to see a definition of a nurse?

What are the challenges that you will face as a nurse?

Personal Philosophy of Nursing Paper
