Health Promotion and Community Resource Teaching Project

This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment.

An important role of nursing is to provide health promotion and disease prevention. Review the 2020 Topics and Objectives on the Healthy People website. Choose a topic of interest that you would like to address, in conjunction with a population at-risk for the associated topic. Submit the topic and associated group to your instructor for approval.

Create a 10-15 slide PowerPoint presentation for your topic and focus group. Include speaker notes and citations for each slide, and create a slide at the end for References.

Address the following:

  1.
  2. Describe the approved topic and associated population your group has selected.
  3. Discuss how this topic adversely affects the population. How does health disparity affect this population?
  4.
  5. Explain evidence-based approaches that can optimize health for this population.
  6. How do these approaches minimize health disparity among affected populations?
  7.
  8. Outline a proposal for health education that can be used in a family-centered health promotion to address the issue for the target population. Ensure your
  9. proposal is based on evidence-based practice.
  10.
  11. Present a general profile of at least one health-related organization for the selected focus topic. Present two resources, national or local, for the proposed education plan that can be utilized by the provider or the patient.
  12.
  13. Identify interdisciplinary health professionals important to include in the health
  14. promotion. What is their role? Why is their involvement significant?

Cite at least three peer-reviewed or scholarly sources to complete this assignment. Sources should be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and public health content.

Refer to the resource, “Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations,” located in the Student Success Center, for additional guidance on completing this assignment in the appropriate style.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Nurse Interview: Leader, Executive, or Manager

Nurse Interview: Leader, Executive, or Manager

Nursing leaders work in a variety of positions: managers in hospitals, directors at various levels within clinical and non-clinical settings, executives within healthcare organizations, etc. For this assignment, students will conduct an interview to explore the characteristics and functions of nursing leaders. Students will then present their findings. The nursing leader must be an RN, have a BSN degree or higher, and be in a position of leadership.

Part I: The Interview

The interview should be conducted formally using professional dress, tone, and manners. Interview questions should focus on leadership style, development of the nursing leader, and current issues and trends facing nursing and healthcare at local, national, and global levels. Students will learn from the interview experience, so take the time to complete this portion of the assignment with enthusiasm.

Ensure the individual being interviewed has enough responsibility to be able to respond to the following questions. You will use these headings to organize and present your findings.

  • Introduction
    • Describe your education, nursing background, and current and previous positions.
  • Leadership Style
    • Describe the leadership style you identify with and most commonly use in your practice.
    • How did you develop your leadership style?
    • How has your leadership style evolved with experience?
  • Future Planning
    • How are you working towards sustainability for your practice setting in developing new nursing leaders?
    • To what professional organizations do you belong?
    • How are professional organizations impactful in developing nursing leaders?
  • Current Issues and Trends
    • Describe current challenges you are facing in nursing and healthcare (today and in the past 2-5 years.)
    • How do these challenges impact your practice setting?
    • Describe the impact of these challenges at the local, national, and global levels.(For example, if staffing is a concern for the practice setting is it because of a local trend? Is this a tourist community in which the population fluctuates making finding and keeping qualified, dedicated staff a difficulty? Is this a challenge because this type of facility is impacted by local, national, or even global politics and economic circumstances?)

Part II: Presentation of Findings

You may present your findings as a paper, a PowerPoint presentation, or a video. Be creative! Be sure to include all of the content you covered during the interview in detail, as well as a conclusion. Resources for creating an effective presentation or video are available in the Resources area for this week. Required elements for each method of submission are described below.

  • Option 1: Paper
    • Must be at least four pages, excluding the title and reference page
  • Option 2: PowerPoint
    • Must be at least 12 slides, excluding the title and reference slides
  • Option 3: Video
    • The video submission cannot be of the actual interview. The video is of the student reviewing the interview, questions, and responses and should be formatted similar to that of a news report. The video must be at least ten minutes in length. This option also includes a requirement for submission of APA formatted citations as a Word document or a PDF file.

All options require at least three recent references (published within the past five years) submitted in APA style.

Use these headings to organize and present your submission.

  • Introduction: Provide enough information for the audience to get a sense of the leader you interviewed.
  • Leadership Style: Discuss the interviewee’s leadership style.
  • Future Planning: Describe and explain the interviewee’s future planning and professional development.
  • Current Issues and Trends: Describe the challenges discussed during the interview. Explain how they impact practice and the local, national, and global community.
  • Conclusion: Reflect on what you discovered or learned during the interview. How does this experience impact you as a future BSN prepared nursing leader? Describe related changes to your practice you have implemented or plan to implement as you move forward with your practice and career.

The Clinical Issue and Research Questions Using PICOT

In patients on the acute care medical surgical floor (P), what is the effect of changing continuous IV tubings every 96 hours (I) on the incidence of CLABSI (O) versus every changing continuous IV tubings every 48 hours (C) during a 6-month tracking period (T)?

Assignment Directions

Begin by selecting a topic in nursing or medicine that is of interest to you. Next, use PICOT to format possible research questions about that topic. Provide three possible PICOT research questions related to the chosen topic (each question will have a different direction on the same topic)

Then, develop and record a 10-12 slide presentation (please refer to the PowerPoint tutorial) of the plan with audio and speaker notes for the Vila Health system, city officials, and the disaster relief team.        Trace-mapping becomes an important step to interrupting the spread of all infectious diseases to prevent or curtail morbidity and mortality in the community. A vital step in trace-mapping is the identification of the infectious individual or group and isolating or quarantining them. During the trace-mapping process, these individuals are interviewed to identify those who have had close contact with them. Contacts are notified of their potential exposure, testing referrals become paramount, and individuals are connected with appropriate services they might need during the self-quarantine period (CDC, 2020).      This assessment provides an opportunity for you to apply the concepts of emergency preparedness, public health assessment, triage, management, and surveillance after a disaster. You will also focus on evacuation, extended displacement periods, and contact tracing based on the disaster scenario provided.    Demonstration of Proficiency  By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:    Competency 1: Analyze health risks and health care needs among distinct populations.  Describe the determinants of health and the cultural, social, and economic barriers that impact safety, health, and disaster recovery efforts in a community.  Competency 2: Propose health promotion strategies to improve the health of populations.  Present specific, evidence-based strategies to overcome communication barriers and enhance interprofessional collaboration to improve disaster recovery efforts.  Competency 3: Evaluate health policies, based on their ability to achieve desired outcomes.  Explain how health and governmental policy affect disaster recovery efforts.  Competency 4: Integrate principles of social justice in community health interventions.  Explain how a proposed disaster recovery plan will lessen health disparities and improve access to community services.  Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead health promotion and improve population health.  Organize content with clear purpose/goals and with relevant and evidence-based sources (published within 5 years).  Slides are easy to read and error free. Detailed audio and speaker notes are provided. Vaping in teenagers

Develop a hypothetical health promotion plan, 3-4 pages in length, addressing a specific health concern for an individual or a group living in the community that you identified from the topic list provided.  â€¢ Vaping in teenagers  â€¢   Historically, nurses have made significant contributions to community and public health with regard to health promotion, disease prevention, and environmental and public safety. They have also been instrumental in shaping public health policy. Today, community and public health nurses have a key role in identifying and developing plans of care to address local, national, and international health issues. The goal of community and public health nursing is to optimize the health of individuals and families, taking into consideration cultural, racial, ethnic groups, communities, and populations. Caring for a population involves identifying the factors that place the population’s health at risk and developing specific interventions to address those factors. The community/public health nurse uses epidemiology as a tool to customize disease prevention and health promotion strategies disseminated to a specific population. Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that investigates causes of various diseases in a specific population (CDC, 2012; Healthy People, n.d.).  As an advocate and educator, the community/public health nurse is instrumental in providing individuals, groups, and aggregates with the tools that are essential for health promotion and disease prevention.   It is essential to develop trust and rapport with community members to accurately identify health needs and help them adopt health promotion, health maintenance, and disease prevention strategies. Cultural, socio-economical, and educational biases need to be taken into consideration when communicating and developing an individualized treatment and educational plan. Social, economic, cultural, and lifestyle behaviors can have an impact on an individual’s health and the health of a community. These behaviors may pose health risks, which may be mitigated through lifestyle/behaviorally-based education. The environment, housing conditions, employment factors, diet, cultural beliefs, and family/support system structure play a role in a person’s levels of risk and resulting health. Assessment, evaluation, and inclusion of these factors provide a basis for the development of an individualized plan. The health professional may use a genogram or sociogram in this process.    Demonstration of Proficiency  By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:  â€¢ Competency 1: Analyze health risks and health care needs among distinct populations.  â€¢ Analyze a community health concern that is the focus of a health promotion plan.  â€¢ Competency 2: Propose health promotion strategies to improve the health of populations.  â€¢ Explain why a health concern is important for health promotion within a specific population.  â€¢ Establish agreed-upon health goals in collaboration with participants.  â€¢ Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead health promotion and improve population health.  â€¢ Organize content so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions; contains few errors in grammar/punctuation, word choice, and spelling.  â€¢ Apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references exhibiting nearly flawless adherence to APA format.  Note: Assessment 1 must be completed first before you are able to submit Assessment 4.  Preparation  The first step in any effective project or clinical patient encounter is planning.
