Report writing

You are to imagine that you are part of a junior engineering team assigned by the management of an engineering firm to produce a report discussing the implementation plan for a proposed project. You will need to do the following:

  • Select an engineering based project (either an existing one or one created by you).
  • Evaluate current industry best practices as they relate to organisational and project management in medium and large scale engineering enterprises.
  • Research new engineering and project management approaches and reflect critically on their significance to engineering practice.
  • Prepare the following:
  • Provide recommendations for this case study as informed by your research into industry best practice (in particular, using project management tools/processes)
  • Write a 15 to 20 page report addressed to the management of the Engineering firm according to the following structure:
  • A full scope (review the project charter document as a starting point)
  • A complete work breakdown structure (WBS) including cost and duration estimates for all work packages
  • A complete PERT chart with a clear indication of the critical path and possible slack/float times.
  • Executive Summary
  • Section 1: Introduction
  • Section 2: Clear description of the project
  • Section 3: Analysis of charts
  • Section 4: Discussion of current industry best practices, and new engineering and project management approaches
  • Section 5: Conclusion and recommendations
  • Section 6: Challenges faced in producing the required information, strategies for overcoming the challenges and lessons learnt;
  • Section 7: Demonstrated competencies (outlined in the Stage 1 Competency Standards for Professional Engineers) you believe you have shown, and the extent to which you have demonstrated these in preparing this report
  • Reference list; and
  • Appendices that include the following deliverables: WBS, Gantt and PERT charts and scope/other documents used.

Chapter 7 Bacteria Separation Designs Paper

Design a bacterial separation problem using the terms from Chapter 7. The problem should include 3 or more bacteria in a mixed culture. Design two problems for 1 bonus point each, and answer 1 problem designed by a classmate for 1 bonus point. *** 3 Bonus points possible

Example Problem: You are given a mixed culture containing an aerobic thermophile, aerobic psychrophile that is also a halophile, and an anerobic mesophile bacteria. How will you separate these into pure cultures?

Example answer:

1) Separate the culture into 3 new tubes for isolation conditions

2) To isolate the Thermophile: Expose tube 1 to high temperatures above 45 Degrees Celsius, all bacteria will die except the Thermophile.

3) To isolate the Psychrophile: Expose tube 2 to cold temperatures below -15 degrees Celisius, all bacteria will die except the Psychrophile.

4) To isolate the Anaerobic Mesophile: Expose tube 3 to anaerobic conditions without oxygen, both aerobes will die, only the Anaerobe will live.

Note: If two bacteria are too closely related for the above approach, you could use the streak plate to isolate colonies to obtain a pure culture. You can differentiate different bacteria by colony color, form, elevation, margin on a agar plate.

Request for Proposal

The “Request for Proposal (RFP) Template for Health Information Technology” provided by the National Learning Consortium provides a template that healthcare organizations can use to structure requests for vendors to send proposals for a specific healthcare IT application that an organization needs to acquire.

Using the “Request for Proposal (RFP) Template for Health Information Technology” as a guide,

  • List the important parts of the template that you feel would be essential to your team in evaluating vendor proposals for your team’s assigned software application (implementation of CDI software.)
  • Next to each item on the list, document your rationale as to why you feel the element is essential in your team’s evaluation of vendor proposals.

Designing for Disabilities

Please see attached document “GUIDE on HOW TO KEEP A JOURNAL.pdf” to complete the task for this week. Please make sure to review the “Evaluation of Journals” as that is how this task will be graded. I have also attached an example of an completed journal for you to reference and follow as a format.

I have attached this week’s lecture notes and summary and additional information.

Designing for Disability — this week’s work focuses on Universal Design (UD) which is dedicated to improving access for persons who may have functional limitations. These limitations are usually enhanced by environmental barriers more than by the impairment or limitation the person may have. Designing for disability now encompasses everything around us that we use and touch. UD is very important for assistive devices and other types of equipment and technologies needed to enhance the abilities of the person and the use of modern technology and communications. Lately, there is a lot of emphasis on other aspects of society access, such as interior and exterior designing, fashion and accessories that are more fitting and user-friendly for persons with different functional limitations. For information on designing for other abilities see: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/09/fashion/parsons-design-disability.html

Universal Design (UD) is the process of creating products that are accessible to people with a wide range of abilities, disabilities, and other characteristics. Universally designed products accommodate individual preferences and abilities; communicate necessary information effectively (regardless of ambient conditions or the user’s sensory abilities); and can be approached, reached, manipulated, and used regardless of the individual’s body size, posture, or mobility. Application of universal design principles minimizes the need for assistive technology, results in products compatible with assistive technology, and makes products more usable by everyone, not just people with disabilities.

Typically, products are designed to be most suitable for the average user. In contrast, products that are designed according to principles of universal design are designed to be usable by everyone, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design (Connell et al., The Principles of Universal Design in resources list).

Universal design typically results in product features that benefit a variety of users, not just people with disabilities. For example, sidewalk curb cuts, designed to make sidewalks and streets accessible to those using wheelchairs, are today often used by kids on skateboards, parents with baby strollers, and delivery staff with rolling carts. Similarly, a door that automatically opens when someone approaches it is more accessible to everyone, including small children, workers whose arms are full, and people using walkers or wheelchairs.

Diabetic treatment and diagonistic tool
