Teaching Plan

Select one class period from your course syllabus and develop a teaching plan for your chosen class. Following the assignment guidelines below, develop and submit your teaching plan for the class period during week 6 and deliver a mini presentation explaining your teaching plan during week 7.

Assignment Guidelines

Your teaching plan should serve as a road map of what you think students need to learn as well as how you will effectively deliver your instruction and evaluate what the students learned during the class period. Your teaching plan should guide your teaching presentation during week 7 (see guidelines for the presentation in week 7). While there are many formats for a teaching plan, the following sections should be included in your plan:

• The subject or topic that you plan to teach: Your topic should be selected from one of the class periods listed in your syllabus that you developed for an undergraduate nursing course.
• Level of instruction: The placement of the course in the nursing program curriculum (i.e., freshman, junior, sophomore, senior; beginning, mid-program, or end-of-program level)
• Method/mode of delivering your teaching presentation: Form of audio-visual delivery, PowerPoint presentation, or similar method
• Learning objectives: Include 4–5 outcome statements that define what you expect the students to learn or accomplish by the end of the class period. Your learning objectives should be clear and measurable, and appropriate to the information you are teaching, and the level of instruction.
• Content outline: Develop an outline of the central points and/or skills you plan to cover. Your content should be logically structured.
• Teaching strategies and learning activities: List the approach, techniques, and methods you will use to drive your instruction and engage your students to reach the learning objectives (e.g., lecture, active learning, discussions). Provide a rationale supporting your selected teaching strategies, as well as their advantages and disadvantages.
• Plans for individual learning differences: How you plan to adapt your teaching to meet individual learning needs of various students. Explain how individuals with different learning styles will be supported by your teaching strategies and activities.
• Evaluation process: List the methods you plan to use to assess student learning and evaluate the effectiveness of your teaching strategies (how you will determine if students met the outcome objectives).
  • Include formative (questioning, discussion, games, etc.) and summative (assignment, test, presentation, etc.) evaluation strategies.
  • Include at least one written assignment and develop a rubric that clearly describes your expectations for the assignment. Your rubric should:
    • List the criteria that will be assessed (a breakdown of the assignment parts).
    • Include some type of scale that measures the levels of quality for the criteria being assessed (e.g., from excellent to poor, from exceeds expectations to does not meet expectations).

you will be creating a music playlist that reflects themes and concepts of the psychopathology course. You are to select at least 2   songs and analyze how they apply to psychopathology course materials. Your references/sources must be included in each slide to cite your work as well as in their own References slide. APA formatting should be used for citations and listing your sources.

In the presentation, you are to discuss: 

·        How does your song apply to our course materials?

·        How do you feel the song does justice/or doesn’t to people living with mental illness?

·        What societal views towards mental illness does your song reflect?

·        What overall themes did you find after analyzing your songs? 

Note: Be sure to include a slide titled references which include all the references used to complete the presentation. 

Many different individuals live with PTSD. How does this type of mental illness impair an individual’s functioning? What are examples of treatment mentioned in the video/text which have proven to be successful with some patients? What would you look for when assessing her? In other words, what are some of the key characteristics associated with PTSD?

As social workers, examining issues of diversity requires that we also think critically about issues of oppression, marginalization, and social justice. This assignment is an opportunity to explore a current social justice issue that affects the communities in which you will work as a social worker, and to explore ways that you can contribute to advocacy efforts as a social worker.

Utilizing a free podcast/ film app that can be utilized on a smartphone or computer the students will research the topic discussed in the episode and engage in reflection about the topic.

The written assignment will contain the following:

Select and discuss the social justice issue that is currently relevant and of interest to you (Gun Violence)

Research the history of the issue, including the following information about the identified group: History of treatment of identified group as it relates to health, legal/justice system, politics, economics, education, and oppression.

 If applicable, attempt to establish a timeline of the issue that includes colonization and slavery. Commonly held beliefs and stereotypes about the identified group. Research and discuss current social action campaigns and/or groups advocating on behalf of the identified group, and how they developed (at least two in addition to the professional and/or group from the podcast); Discuss the role that social workers play/can play in advocating on behalf of the identified group; Be specific (position, tasks, micro or macro) Find an educational and/or advocacy event that is happening (National or International) that would help support the identified group, including: The purpose, objectives, agenda, and intended impact of the event, Target audience, Location of the event, How your group would advertise the event Reflect on how the knowledge you acquired throughout the process will impact your social work practice Present a synopsis of all sections above to the class in a 5-minute presentation Podcast must be made available to the class. Free applications that may be used include Anchor and iMovie. Be creative and have fun! Feel free to include music, poetry, photography or even an interview. You can also create a Power Point with voice over. Your peers will have access to your projects as they will all be uploaded on our course on CANVAS. Let’s explore this in class! Students will be expected to submit all references utilized in APA format to the instructor on the day of the presentation.
