HEALTH DISPARITY

Power Point presentation on a health disparity

A health disparity is a difference in outcomes between different groups. This might be due to population genetics, gender, age or socioeconomic status

The Power Point will consist of

  1. Introduction of the health disparity
  2. Identify the objective of the PowerPoint
  3. Define the health disparity
  4. Epidemiology the health disparity
  5. Use rates, incidence, prevalence and specific rate to describe the population
  6. How would you plan for community change
    1. Health planning
    2. Community assessment
    3. Community partner
    4. Identify the intervention
    5. Identify the cost of the intervention
    6. How would you evaluate the community intervention

Quality Performance To Reduce Readmission Rates Discussion

Review the story at the link below before posting to the discussion:

Rau, J. (2015). Half of nation’s hospitals fail again to escape Medicare’s readmission penalties. Kaiser Health News. Retrieved from http://khn.org/news/half-of-nations-hospitals-fail-again-to-escape-medicares-readmission-penalties/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

After you have finished, consider how you would respond to the following situation:

Your local hospital has received notice from CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid) regarding their readmission rates.

  1. As a BSN prepared nurse, you have been asked to serve as a consultant to suggest a new Quality (Performance) Improvement process for ONE of the areas of deficiency. Write some brief steps (suggestions) for improvement as you contemplate accepting the consulting opportunity.
  2. Share practice improvements utilized from your own clinical nursing experiences that have led to enhanced patient outcomes.

You have to view the article to be able to answer the question. 3-4 paragraphs needed. 2 Scholarly Articles required to be cited in the discussion posting. Thanks! 🙂

2.Create a presentation of 10-15 slides or screens excluding the title and references.
•Your slides/screen should include titles, main ideas, bullet points, and relevant images, charts, graphs, etc.

3.In your presentation:
•Describe an ethical situation, based on the chosen topic, that can get in the nurse’s way of practicing ethically. Describe the situation clearly and concisely.
•Identify how this situation relates to one provision within the Code of Ethics for Nurses.
•Identify two ethical principles that may arise when facing this situation.
•Discuss how a nurse might lessen the impact of the situation on the nurse’s practice.
•In addition to the course texts, cite and reference a minimum of two (2) additional scholarly sources to support your work.
•Close with a summary of your topic, and APA formatted reference slide(s).

response to discusion below

Public response and outcry have exceedingly been able to create public policy change to some degree. One prominent example of this is the conflict between the federalist and antifederalist divide during the Civil War era. The differences between these two American groups were based on the way they believed the government should be casted. The antifederalist south and the opposite believers in the north threw America into the Civil War.

If this were to occur today, all local law enforcement, terror and counterterrorism units, FBI and cyber intelligence agencies would have to be on alert and ready to respond. Today’s threats have advanced with different forms of weapons, maybe even biochemical agencies would also need to be ready to respond.

For the DHS, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Customs and Border Protection, Office of Intelligence and Analysis and the Office of Operation Coordination would have to be involved for a collective approach to handling a potential hostile situation.

What is radiometric material?

Age Is Relative

The question of age can be applied to humans, clothing, food, furniture and fossils. Doctors study how humans age and can observe how hair turns grey and skin becomes wrinkled. Rocks and other organic materials do not always provide observers the same outward changes. In order to determine the age of a material; including human bones, radiometric dating can be applied. Determining the amount of radioactive isotopes in a geological or archeological specimen can help decipher its relative age. Since all rocks and minerals contain radioactive elements, the decay process is like a clock that a geologist can read since different radioactive elements have independent “clocks” or half-lives.

For this unit, answer the following questions:

1. Pick TWO of the following and describe how radiometric dating has been utilized to determine their age:

a. Earth

b. Moon

c. Meteorites

d. Fossils

e. Early man

f. Historic relics (i.e., Dead Sea Scrolls, Shroud of Turin)

g. Volcanic eruptions

2. Identify one element used to date rocks and minerals. How long is its half-life?

3. How can radioactivity be measured?

4. Rocks, minerals, and even food we eat can contain radioactive material. Why doesn’t this radioactive material comprise a threat to humans?

5. What is an alternative method to radiometric dating? What are the strengths and weaknesses to this type of dating process?

Nursing Question

Ann and Michael have been married for 55 years. Ann is 80 years-old, and suffers from lung cancer and advanced Alzheimer’s disease. She currently resides in a nursing home, and often does not recognize Michael when he visits. Last night she was admitted to the hospital with difficulty breathing. Today, you are the nurse caring for Ann, and her physician is suggesting surgery to remove part of her lung to potentially slow the progression of her cancer. Michael is feeling unsure about this course of treatment, and asks for your advice and guidance.

How would you respond to Michael and serve as advocate for your patient?

Environmental Science

Do you know where your food comes from? Throughout history, selfsufficiency has been the norm for acquiring food such as grains, meats, fruits, and vegetables. People and nations grew their own food and traded only on a local level. Today, food trade between nations has intensified, food is shipped thousands of miles across the globe, and world trade in agricultural products exceeds $1 trillion annually.
Choose a food item from your fridge or pantry. All fresh items should be labeled with a sticker that states the country of origin. If you need help finding that information, use the following link:
Click here for the list of foods and food information.
Complete the following:
List and describe the food item, and include where it came from (check the label or Web site). Use this calculator to determine how far it has traveled to you. You should enter your current location in Step 1 and the country of origin for your food item in Step 2. Lastly in Step 3 enter in your food item. Answer the following questions (use the Internet and CTU library to form your opinions): 1. How does the vast movement of food from one nation to another benefit or potentially harm developing nations? Are there benefits of importing food to developed or wealthy nations? 2. There is an “eat local” initiative developing throughout the United States and Europe. What are the benefits to buying fresh, local foods? Are there drawbacks? Do you buy local? 3. Can you live without the food item you chose? Is there a local substitute available? 4. Knowing what you do of how global food trade affects the global market and the economies of individual countries, explain your position on buying this food item in the future.
Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with at least a 100word reply about their Primary Task Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your discussion, please consider the following questions:
Did your peers’ food travel further than yours? Do either of your foods require international trade? How did the benefits and drawbacks of eating local that you discussed compare with your peers’ observations?

What are the measures?

Based on the references below, discuss what have you learned about high performance and balanced scorecard/competing forces? Are measures missing? What measures are superior? (As always, be sure to draw from and cite relevant reference materials)

Based on your readings, what have you learned about high performance and balanced scorecard/competing forces? Are measures missing? What measures are superior?

What is your root cause analysis of what makes an organization high performing?

What is your new idea for making the process better?
