Apply Your Knowledge Of Analysis Tools When Working With Groups

Last week, you determined the root cause(s) of the problem you are trying to resolve for your final paper. As a reminder, the decision you are working on is the one that you selected in week two.

This week, you will determine the solution(s) for your decision. Review the analysis tools that were covered this week. Be sure to review the resources provided on this week’s overview. Also, read the narrative on the lecture page.

Instructions

Select two of the analysis tools that were presented in this week’s overview and lecture. Provide a detailed explanation of how each tool is used (use separate paragraphs for each tool).

Also, discuss a time when you have used each tool for a business-related decision. In addition, explain how the tools were helpful for you when making those decisions. There should be a thorough explanation for each tool. Also, use separate paragraphs for each tool.

If you have not used one (or both) of the tools, explain how you could have used them. For the business-related problem that you are discussing, what did you do instead of using an analysis tool? If you had used, analysis tools, would the outcome have been better? Why? Your answers should be substantive to properly address the questions.

In addition, discuss which analysis tool you will likely use for your final paper and why you chose that tool. Your answer should be included in a separate paragraph.

Your assignment should be at least 1.5 pages in length (single spaced) excluding resources. Use one-inch margins and a standard font size (11-12).

Project Documentation

Refer to the business information system proposed in week 1 power point presentation. In this presentation, you would include sample data-entry screens for the proposed system using the data-entry guidelines provided in the text, process for creating user documentation and guidelines how to ensure that the proposed business information meets the requirements.

The format of your PowerPoint presentation should be:

Slide 1: Title of PowerPoint, Course, Instructor, Date Submitted, Student Name

Slides 2-4: Refer to the business information system proposed in week 1 power point presentation. Design any two sample data-entry screens for the proposed system using the data-entry guidelines provided in the text. Support your design with arguments for each of the design choices you made. See Figures 8-2, 8-3 and 8-4 for examples to use in the design.

Slides 5-7: For the proposed business information system, you have the task of organizing the user documentation, and you would probably not be able to create all of the content by yourself. Describe resources you can partner with to organize and document the user documentation.

Slides 8-9: Briefly describe the measures you would take to ensure that the business solution meets the stakeholders’ requirements, who would perform and who would be involved in review of your proposed system. Please include some specific examples.

Slide 10: Reference List

Recruitment Tools

Your final assignment includes developing a PowerPoint presentation to a college whose leaders are considering hiring your recruitment firm for their recruitment effort. This week’s project will prepare you for that assignment and you can use either Word or PowerPoint. For this week, you are to develop a recruitment and advertisement checklist (tool) that can be used by any organization. You can use either of these perspectives: Develop a checklist that identifies all that is required to ensure positions are filled within an organization or develop it for a leader to analyze the effectiveness of their organization’s recruitment efforts. A leader within the organization should be able to use the tool with their hiring managers and recruitment team as they are recruiting and improving their systems. Remember, that you are developing this from a consultant’s perspective and should be written in the third person.

In order to review samples, you can search the Internet; however, you want to create your own tool. Your project should include narrative that provides detail regarding how and why you created the tool as well as how it should be used within an organizational setting. Your project should include a cover page, list of references and three pages (including narrative and tool). Be creative and develop it as if you are going to use it as a tool to build your consulting firm. Also, develop it in a way that you can revise as needed in the future.

For clarification, you want to create a checklist that identifies the steps that are included in the recruitment and advertisement process. It could be something as basic as the sample below with additional information.

Task

Completed?

Discuss recruitment strategies with hiring managers.

Develop position description

Review this company’s process for recruitment:

There should be three supporting references or sources. Don’t use encyclopedia, Wikipedia, unknown, undated, or anonymous sources, such as brief articles from websites. Also, cite all sources according to APA.

System Analysis and Design

You have to select a topic to perform research, plan and design a business information system during the first week of this course. Please refer to Week One of this Course Guide for some suggested example of this topic.

Focus of the Final Paper

Construct a system analysis paper based on your weekly presentations. Please note this is an individual paper. The paper should represent the research and recommendations you have performed for the proposed business information system over the previous four weeks in a cohesive format. Your paper should demonstrate critical thought. The paper should be 2400 to 3000 words, excluding the title, diagrams, and reference pages. The structure of the paper should be as follows:

Cover Page

Title of paper

Student’s name

Course name and number

Instructor’s name

Date submitted

Introduction

The introduction should familiarize the reader with the proposed business information system and outline the major points that you will cover in the paper. It should include your thesis statement. If you need assistance with writing a thesis statement, visit the Ashford Writing Center’s website for help.

Body

Make the suggested changes to the PowerPoint assignments for Weeks One through Four based on the constructive feedback provided by your instructor. Do not simply copy and paste your previous assignments into your final paper. Read your writing and improve upon what you have already written to connect everything learned in this class. Be sure that your paper addresses the following points.

System Overview

Provide a brief overview of the proposed business information system and describe

What it would accomplish for the business organization

Who are the stakeholders in the proposed business information system

What are the business information system requirements

How the requirements are elicited, analyzed, documented, reviewed and confirmed

How would the business analyst ensure the business information system or solution satisfied all stakeholder requirements.

Explain which of the potential approaches to system development (computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools, joint application design (JAD), rapid application development (RAD), participatory design (PD), or the use of Agile Methodologies should be considered for the proposed business information system design. Support your explanation with examples from your own experiences and/or from any scholarly journal citations.

Briefly discuss what each stage of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) approach would accomplish in your proposed business information system.

Requirements Determination

Discuss the types of documents that would be useful to analyze for requirements gathering purposes and why they would be important. Additionally, discuss which documents would be possible to obtain as well as which ones would be difficult to obtain (think about the records and knowledge keeping within the organization, some information resides in specific documents while some is scattered throughout the organization).

Create a questionnaire that includes at least ten well-written questions that you can use for information gathering.

Explain your rationale for the style in which you wrote the questions.

Identify which modern requirements determination methods (Joint Application Design and/or Prototyping) would be appropriate for this business information system and explain why you think they would be suitable.

Using your proposed business information system scenario, discuss at least one example of each of the nine system characteristics:

What are the Components and Interrelated Components in the proposed business information system,

What would be the Boundary of the proposed business information system,

What is the Purpose of the proposed business information system,

What is the Environment of the proposed business information system,

What are the Interfaces of the proposed business information system,

What are the Constraints of the proposed business information system, and

What are the Inputs and Outputs to the proposed business information system

Scope and Feasibility

Explain the proposed business information system’s scope. Please refer to Table 4-3 in the text

Develop a business information system plan. Please refer to Table 4-4 in the text.

Assess the business information system’s feasibility from the system analyst’s perspective by using the six categories of feasibility factors (economic, operational, technical, schedule, legal and contractual, and political feasibility) outlined in the text (pp. 90-98)

Develop a Project Scope Statement for the proposed business information system, refer to Figure 4-12 in the text. Include the following categories in the statement:

General Project Information,

Problem/Opportunity Statement,

Project Objectives,

Project Description,

Business Benefits,

Project Deliverables, and

Estimated Project Duration.

Diagrams

Develop a context-level data-flow diagram for the proposed system (use Fig. 6-5 in the text as a guide). You can use Microsoft PowerPoint to develop the data flow diagrams.

Develop a level-0 diagram for the proposed system (use Fig. 6-6 in the text as a guide).

Using the level-0 diagram that you previously constructed, select one of the level-0 processes and prepare a level-1 diagram (use Fig. 6-8 in the text as a guide).

Data Modeling

For the proposed business information system and the data flow diagrams developed previously, consider potential customer transactions. Provide a list of all the entities (like supplier, customer, etc.) for which system will need to store information.

Identify a set of attributes for each entity listed above (like customer name, supplier phone). See pp. 197-199 in the text.

Specify an identifier (like employee ID, supplier phone, etc.) for each entity and explain the rules you applied when you selected the identifier. See pp. 199-201 in the text.

Develop an entity-relationship diagram for entity relationships. Be sure to specify the cardinalities for each relationship (use Fig. 7-10 in the text as a guide). Remember, cardinality of a relationship is the number of instances of an entity that can be associated with each instance of another entity.

User Training and Maintenance

For a business analyst, it is also important to plan for training of all users of the system and develop a maintenance plan for the life of the system (use Table 10-5, and 10-6 in the text as a guide). Provide a brief suggested plan for user training.

For the proposed business information system, provide a brief plan for maintenance of the system (use Table 10-7 in the text as a guide).

To ensure readability, supply headings for each section of the body.

Conclusion

In your conclusion, restate your thesis statement. Review your conclusions. Include any ideas you have about the business information system that you did not already discuss.

References

Provide an APA-formatted reference list. In addition to the text, cite at least four additional scholarly references from the Ashford library to support your discussion.

: Preparing for the Informational Interview

An informational interview is a recommended tool for exploring career options. In M3 Assignment 2, you will submit a written account of the informational interview you conducted with the psychology professional.

You will ask the interviewee to describe the educational and training steps (the career paths) he or she took to reach the current position. You will also ask the interviewee to describe, in some detail, the job responsibilities associated with the position. The interview must be at least thirty minutes long. Ideally, it should be conducted in person. If that is not feasible, a phone interview is adequate.

Begin to prepare for this informational interview by identifying the professional you plan to interview. Ideally, the professional should be engaged in a career that you hope to pursue. (You may want to identify a second candidate in case your initial choice is unable to complete the interview with you.) This professional may work in your local area, but that is not necessary. If you cannot identify a professional easily, ask your friends and family if they know anyone who works in the field of psychology. You may also want to phone your local community mental health center or social services agency to ask for names and contact information of potential professionals you could interview. Contact your facilitator for guidance if you have difficulty in identifying someone.

Tasks

In a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document, address the following:

Provide the following identifying information about the individual you have selected:

The name

The job title (licensed psychologist, social worker, or case manager)

The level of education (a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree)

A description of job responsibilities or day-to-day tasks

The type of license, if applicable

The state of residence and practice

The e-mail address or phone number

Develop a list of at least fifteen questions to ask in your informational interview. Research possible questions to include using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet. Refer to the Job Resources document to conduct an Internet search using the search terms “informational interview questions” in order to find suggested questions. Be sure to put them into your own words for the purpose of this assignment and to give credit to your source by using in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.

Ask the interviewee about his or her work, academic preparation, and advice. In addition, include the interviewee’s answers to questions on the following topics:

The experience, skills, and knowledge necessary for success in a career in psychology or in graduate school

Relevant professional organizations

His or her views on professional ethics and academic integrity

The role of psychological research in his or her work

His or her greatest challenges and rewards

His or her reasons for choosing the field

Develop a script (word-for-word written statement) that you will use during the warm-up (meet-and-greet) portion of the interview. What will you say to the interviewee when you meet him or her? What will you do? For example, will you shake the person’s hand and introduce yourself? Include small talk of a professional nature that will serve as an introduction and explanation of the purpose of the interview. Demonstrate in your script your ability to interact professionally and effectively in a professional environment.

This assignment is preparatory work for the interview to be conducted later in this course. Do not conduct the interview for this assignment.

Ethical Issues in Counseling Research

It is important that the approaches used by counselors and the counseling programs implemented in schools and agencies are effective for the clients and students who will be receiving these services. Counselors in the field often conduct research to test the effectiveness of their services. Consider one of the following questions that a counselor working in a school or agency may want to explore:

Does completion of eight group counseling sessions help to decrease levels of social anxiety (or other symptoms or issues)?

How do students or clients describe the experience of the counseling they have received and its impact on them?

What is the effect of counseling for adolescents who report serious issues with substance abuse?

In your post, specify which of the questions above you are considering, and respond to the following:

What legal or ethical issues would you consider as you select participants, if you were granted permission to answer one of these questions through a structured study at your school or agency?

How would you address issues of informed consent and confidentiality for participants in the study? Cite specific areas of the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics and other ethical guidelines to support your decisions.

Follow current APA style and formatting guidelines in your post.

Response Guidelines

Respond to the posts of two other learners. Find learners who responded to a different question than you and discuss what other legal or ethical considerations you might have made, or how you might go about addressing informed consent and confidentiality in a different way.

Learning Components

This activity will help you achieve the following learning components:

Learn about how ethical codes impact the counseling relationship.

Practice interpreting counseling-related information for different audiences.

Determine the proper application of APA formatting requirements.

Develop communication appropriate for professional counseling settings.
